Sat 13th Aug - Rocky to Edmonton

The morning's project was just to get our stuff in the car ready to go to Edmonton, and then pop out to Rosemarie's for lunch. Rosemarie is one of Mollie's bookclub friends and lives out in the sticks in a log house...but we couldn't find it. The instructions (courtesy of Mollie) proved to be a bit vague and we investigated about 30 left turns with no luck. Eventually after nearly an hour and a half we had to go back to Mollie's to call and ask for directions, and Rosemarie came out to meet us part way (at this point I had been driving here & there for over 2 hours)

Rosemarie's Amazing Log House
When we finally got there the house was amazing and we had a tasty homemade pie lunch. The whole house is made of huge logs and all the internal walls have to be built bearing in mind that the external structure will sink as the wood dries. I saw a hummingbird. They also get deer, elk and moose, bears and cougars passing through between woodland and farmland. Rosemarie and her dog have been stalked by a cougar, they sound scary.

Because of our exciting adventures of the morning we were late back and had to leave pretty much straight away. Mollie felt she was the only person not going on holiday although she had refused to come either to Edmonton or up to the mountains. I got a bit irritated with her. Thankfully mum with the patience of a saint jollied her out of it and we were finally on our way. We were cheered up by a lovely, chatty visit with Pat and Hamish and some delicious butter tarts (you jealous yet Andy? x). We won't see Pat again this visit because she's off to New York with Katie and Carson to see all the sights and shows. But we are going to check in on Hamish when we're back from Edmonton to make sure he's behaving, and not doing too much.

Gordon, Muriel & Brian
Mum drove up to Edmonton and it went much more smoothly than last time (when Mollie navigated!), but the Anthony Hendy road is STILL being built 2 years on and shows no signs of being ready any time soon.

We had a nice evening with Muriel, Gordon and Brian (their youngest son who is a teacher too). In canada you can retire when your age + years of service = 85. Nice.
