Mon 8th Aug - to Mollie's

Mum was woken up by squeaking and scrabbling from the tiny dog who wanted to come in and hang out in her bed. We both had a very good night's sleep and woke up ready for our delicious breakfast of pancakes, bacon, maple syrup and coffee with Pat and Hamish...yum yum. (see pic)
Then we pottered round the yard a bit, visiting pat's new chickens. The old ones were killed or taken away by a range of creatures including a skunk. Other contenders are: coyotes, foxes, cougars and crows. Tis wild country out here! There are horses pastured on their land too and they came to the yard for a while too - they are going to be rodeo horses when they grow up and are absolutely beautiful.
We also saw a tiny woodpecker and the red squirrel which is always on the deck (prizes for spotting it in the photo!) and had good chats.
At about midday hamish had an appointment and mum and I left for aunty mollie's. She is our closest relative out here (grandad's younger sister) - she married Joe Day who died a few years back now (andy and I got the job of digging a hole for his ashes...)
She has just got a live-in philippino guy called danny who has only been there about a week but seems nice and is doing her cooking etc as she is blind and 89. The alternative would probably be moving into the town but she likes it out here on the farm with all the cats.
Mollie is doing pretty well considering and we had some chats and went to dinner in the something and Louise's restaurant, but she is really struggling to hear...or possibly is being slightly selective about what she hears, and is also repeating herself a lot which I don't remember her doing so much before. We had our evening meal at about 4.30 and mollie was in bed about 8 pm so me and mum hung out with the cats, got covered in fluff, and watched the canadian 'so you think you can dance' on mollie's enormous new tv.
