We were up bright and early this morning and Earl made us an omelette for our breakfast. Pat was having her helper in and then had a dentist appointment, and I had decided to make a last minute dash to Bragg Creek to replace my trusty but balding slippers. It took about forty minutes to get there but nothing much opened til 10, and some things not until 11.30 by which time we needed to be who on our way to make sure the car was back in time. To cut a long and not very interesting story short, no slippers were to be found, although we did chat to a lady working in one shop and discovered she used to live in Sussex, and even weirder that she was a policewoman in Burgess Hill about 40 years ago. Small world. We found a very cute book in there full of ideas for nice things for grandparents to do with their grandchildren, so we invested in it just in case mum should need such a thing in the future ever.
We took the car back to the friendly folk in Enterprise Car rentals and had done 1669 km without incident. They gave us a lift back to Trafford Drive.
In the afternoon after we'd packed and Pat had napped, Emily and Nathan came round all by themselves on the bus. Emily was sous-chef to Pat and helped make tasty syrup with cloves and cinnamon sticks to cook up the crab apples. Once you've done that you can bottle them and store them ready for a winter treat (but I don't think that will happen to these). Beth and Start came round after work too and we had a tasty chicken bake dinner with them, and some of three very tasty little preserved apples. Then Tom and Roxanne joined us and we had a mini visit before it was time for us to go. Beth gave us a lift to the airport and we said our goodbyes to everyone else at the house, thank goodness. I hate saying goodbyes, as always we have had a lovely time, and just once we've caught up it's time to leave again. Of course we know we'll be back in a year or two, and maybe we'll even have the odd visitor to the UK which would be brilliant, but it is always bittersweet and I am always hoping that everything will stay just the same ready for when we return.
