Sun 26 Aug - Lazy day in Calgary

As ever in the cool, dark basement we had a good sleep and didn't wake up too early. We had porridge sachets which I might have to buy some of when I get home, then settled down with a coffee to make plans for the next 2 days. We thought we might go to Erskine today but are going to go tomorrow instead and Pat and maybe Earl are coming along too. I would like to go to Bragg Creek too - my trusty and now quite elderly sheepskin moccasins came from there and could probably do with replacing, as some of the strands of wool have worn through and eventually they won't be attached to the soles. If we don't get there though, they'll probably last another 2-3 years at least at the current rate of deterioration. We chatted about Molly and Pat and Hamish too and about Pat's phone call to the other Pat this morning.
The giant bunny was back again and stayed in the garden for most of the day. He pointed forwards and then backwards, moved from one little bunny dust hole to the other and when it was hot stretched out and wiggled his nose a lot but other than that didn't move for about 8 hours. We tried to take a video of his departure but it wasn't the best ever piece of filming.
Pat tries to go for walks as regularly as she can to try to keep her legs and muscles as strong and supple as possible, and combat the disease which is causing all the muscles to kind of solidify. She takes a stick in case she feels unsteady but did make good progress, not too slow and didn't seem to struggle with the hilly bits too badly. It was a fair distance too - up the road, left into the park and then along as far as the tunnel just before Nose Hill. She is very determined.
Pat went for a bit of a lie-down after lunch, and Mum and I assisted Earl with an important task. For his birthday, Beth and Nancy bought him LOADS of scratchcards, so we helped him scratch them all off and check them. It was quite a time-consuming undertaking as they are quite big and complicated, all a bit different and sometimes you have to be careful not to scratch the wrong bits off. Hopefully we spotted all the winners - they haven't made his fortune sadly but he is about $60 better off which is no bad thing. Pat's nap was long since over by the time we finished.
We checked out the news, which was largely about the explosion at the oil refinery in Venezuela, and a Chinese/Japanese dispute over an island (it was only a matter of time before something like that happened), had a 2nd go at Pat's tasty stew and then settled down to a game of tonka, with some Baileys and a Drambuie for me. Happily in the end Earl and I drew. Yay! Not an out-and-out win but good enough for me!
